We collect tyres in bulk anywhere in Sydney. Tyres are banned from landfill in whole form and cannot go in a general rubbish load, so they are collected separately and sent to a facility that processes them into crumb rubber and other recovered products.
Why Tyres Are Handled Separately
Whole tyres cannot be landfilled. They trap air and work their way back to the surface, they are a fire risk in bulk, and they hold water and breed mosquitoes when stockpiled outdoors.
Because of that, disposal is regulated and tyres have to go to a licensed processor rather than a transfer station. There they are shredded and processed into crumb rubber, which ends up in road surfacing, sports surfaces, playground softfall and industrial products.
The practical consequence for you is that tyres cannot be mixed into a general rubbish load. They are collected as their own line on the job.
