A baby grand runs from 250 kilograms up, and a full concert grand can exceed 500. They cannot be tipped on their side like a wardrobe without damaging the action, they do not fit through a standard doorway without careful angling, and on stairs the load has to be controlled rather than carried.
Doing that safely needs enough crew, the right trolleys and straps, and people who have done it before. From $600 + GST reflects what that actually takes. Where the piano is on an upper floor, down a long flight of stairs, or a grand requiring the legs to come off, the quote will be higher — tell us the situation and we will give you a real number.

Before You Book a Disposal
Worth saying plainly: a piano in genuinely good condition may be worth rehoming rather than disposing of. Tuners, schools, community halls and churches occasionally take instruments, and some charities will assess one.
The reality for most pianos is less encouraging. The second-hand market is thin, tuning and repair on an old instrument routinely costs more than the piano is worth, and instruments that have sat in a garage or through decades without tuning are usually beyond economic repair. If you have tried to give it away without success, that is the normal outcome, not bad luck.
