We collect televisions and electronic goods anywhere in Sydney. E-waste cannot go in a general rubbish load — tips do not accept it — so it is separated from everything else and taken to a recycling centre where the components are recovered.
Why E-Waste Is Handled Separately
Electronic goods are not accepted as general waste at tips and transfer stations, and for good reason. Screens, circuit boards and batteries contain heavy metals and other materials that should not go into landfill, while the same devices hold recoverable copper, aluminium, steel and glass.
That means e-waste has to be separated at the point of collection and routed to a facility set up to process it. When we take a television away it does not go in the same pile as the rest of your load.

Old Televisions in Particular
Old CRT televisions are the ones that cause the most trouble. They are far heavier than they look, they are genuinely awkward to carry, and nobody will take them — not the council kerbside collection, not the tip as general waste, and not a second-hand dealer.
The result is that they sit in garages and spare rooms for years. Plasma and early flat screens are heading the same way. If you have one, it goes in the truck with everything else you are clearing.
